The Musée Grévin in Paris is precisely located on one side of Boulevard Montmartre in the 9th arrondissement. Founded in 1882, the Musée Grévin is a private museum named after Alfred Grévin, although the initial idea came from journalist Arthur Meyer. Meyer wanted his readers to become acquainted with the faces of famous people he discussed in his articles. To achieve this, he spared no expense, hiring artists, lawyers, and financiers, and even appointed Eugène-Emile Esnault-Pelterie as the architect. Alfred Grévin, a multi-talented artist working for the newspaper, was so captivated by the project that he devoted his heart and soul to it, lending his name to the museum.

A year later, investor Gabriel Thomas made significant investments in the museum, contributing to the reputation it enjoys today. This allowed for rapid expansion, such as the addition of the Grévin Theater and the Hall of Mirrors. The museum’s exquisite décor, incredibly well-preserved, is even listed as a historical monument. Alfred Grévin, Arthur Meyer, and Gabriel Thomas are the foundational figures of what has become a must-see attraction in Paris. In April 2013, the “Musée Grévin” brand expanded internationally, first to Montreal, with plans for a new museum in Prague.

The museum’s exhibition spaces can display around 250 famous waxworks at any given time. However, since its inception, over 3000 figures have been created. Each year, about a dozen new characters are introduced, each unveiling becoming an event in itself. The museum spans a wide range of art, from neoclassicism of the eighteenth century to contemporary works. It also offers numerous activities, including tours and educational and interactive entertainment. Additionally, there is a souvenir shop, and photography is permitted within the museum.
