History of Jouy-le-Moutier
Jouy-le-Moutier is a historic village located between 25 and 170 meters above sea level, from the right bank of the Oise to the Hautil forest. Cited for the first time in the 11th century by the writer of the life of Hildeburge de Gallardon, the abbey of Saint-Martin de Pontoise gave it to the Val de Jouy. Known for its vines since the 12th century, the fief of Jouy belonged to the Saint-Martin de Pontoise abbey and Notre-Dame-du-Val.
It changed owners over the centuries until the XIXth century when the vines in Jouy were competed by the wines of the Midi thanks to the railroad. Thus, it became an agricultural village. The 1970s marked the radical transformation of the city with its integration into the new city of Cergy-Pontoise.
