History and visit of Lavoisier Street in Paris

Lavoisier Street, connecting Rue Astorg to Rue d’Anjou, is a thoroughfare in the 8th arrondissement of Paris, located in the Madeleine district. Between Rue Lavoisier and Rue de la Pépinière, there once was a street named “Rumford”, in reference to the American scientist knighted as Rumford, who married the widow of the chemist. This street was renamed “Lavoisier” in honor of the eminent scientist Antoine-Laurent Lavoisier, who died on the scaffold. Lavoisier Street starts at No. 57 of Rue d’Anjou and ends at Nos. 22 and 28 Rue d’Astorg. Its length is 210 meters, and its width is around 12 meters. Lavoisier Street intersects Boulevard Malesherbes at Nos. 42 and 32. It does not feature many remarkable buildings or historic sites on Rue Lavoisier. However, this street will forever be part of the history of chemistry for having had the honor of bearing the name “Lavoisier”. At No. 3, Rue Alexandre Lenoir once lived. He was succeeded by Mademoiselle Mars, who lived and died in this house. At No. 6 bis, Rue Lavoisier, is the apartment where TF1 presenter Yves Mourousi once lived. Viewing from Rue d’Astorg, one can only admire the beauty of Rue Lavoisier with its grand buildings flanking both sides and beautiful cars often parked in front of the buildings. Lavoisier Street, exuding modernity, now seems far removed from the tumultuous period of the revolution that once tormented its past.
