Forges Castle, located in the town of Concremiers Indre within the former province of Berry, has been transformed into a guest house rich in history. Registered as a historic monument, the castle, however, is not open to the public for visits.

Description Château de Forges

The Château de Forges, dating back to the fourteenth century, was originally a military fortification designed to protect the borders of Berry from English invasions. Known for its aesthetic beauty and rich history shared privately, it offers a medieval atmosphere cherished by its loyal patrons. The castle has seen little to no significant alterations or restorations affecting its original structure. It comprises a keep surrounded by a loft and features a quadribolé dungeon in its courtyard, with stables, a cellar, and a chapel on the east side.

History of the Château de Forges

The Château de Forges remained within the same family for three centuries, initially owned by Marguerite de Poix, known as Lady de Forges. In the early 1600s, she married Antoine de Lage, Lord of Palisse. The couple, having no heirs, passed the castle to Marguerite’s sister, who married Pierre Muzard. Their daughter Catherine became the new Lady of Forges.

The castle changed hands several times thereafter, being sold to the Marquis of Lussac, then to Lathieu Pinsonneau, and in 1719 to Marie Madeleine de Vieuville, the official mistress of Philippe d’Orléans. Following a period of decline, the castle was sold to Claude Dupin, Lord of Chenonceau and advisor to King Louis XV. After a series of sales, Fernand Aubier took over, responsible for much of the restoration work giving the castle its present appearance. Eventually, it was sold back to the family of the original owner, Viscountess Felix Poix.

In 2007, the castle was transformed into a guesthouse, now known to the public, and is open for visits during the Heritage Days.

It organizes customer appreciation days and study days, along with professional training sessions that can accommodate groups ranging from 20 to 200 participants. However, Château de Forges does not host private receptions such as weddings, birthdays, or engagement parties.

Château de Forges, recognized as a historic monument, is not generally open to the public. However, the estate opens its doors during the Heritage Days and for various events throughout the year.
