In-depth History of town of Amazy In Burgundy
Amazy, a charming French commune, is nestled in the Nièvre department of the Burgundy region. Its history is intricately woven around its iconic church. The remarkable parish church of St. Franchy, constructed by Gustave Grandpierre, stands as a testament to late fifteenth and early sixteenth-century architecture. However, in 1756, tragedy struck when the spire was decimated by a lightning strike, leading to the subsequent destruction of a gargoyle and several of the church’s stairs. The late 1800s saw further restoration efforts, with a portion of the walls and buttresses reconstructed in 1891 by Stephen Pier and the church’s sacristy being rejuvenated in 1889 by Ch reread.
